Bhutan Highlight Tour allows the short introduction to culture and history of Bhutan. The tour follows scenic road to the best of Bhutan covering both the old capital of Bhutan in Punakha and the new capital in Thimpu. Also known as Bhutan Central Tour, you will be led on an exciting journey of colorful town of Paro, Thimpu and Punakha which are major cities in Central Bhutan.

Paro is the small yet beautiful city that is known for its columns of ruined fortresses, museums and breathtaking natural views. Thimpu is home to ancient relics and monasteries with spectacular view of Bhutan’s highest Chomolhari Mountain at the backdrop. The simplicity of life, deeply spiritual people, colorful festivals and ancient lifestyle attracts visitors to this Last Shangrila Land of Bhutan.

Trip Itinerary

  • Day 01 - Arrive Paro [2,250m/7,382ft] and hike up to Taktsang Monastery and sightseeing

    Once you land at Paro International airport, you will be greeted by our representative who will then take you to the hotel in a private vehicle. After refreshment, we will take brief hike to Taktsang which is popular as a Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The site is sacred to Bhutanese. According to the popular belief, Guru Rinpoche flew to Bhutan from Tibet on the back of Tiger in 8th century and chose this spot for meditation. This Monastery exists in the rocky cliffs that towers to 900m above Paro Valley. 2 hrs of moderately challenging hike will take us to the Monastery. We will also visit the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong. This fort celebrates the victory of Bhutanese over raiding Tibetans. The fort offers stunning view of Chomolhari Mountain on a clear day.

  • Day 02 - Drive to Thimpu [2,350m/7,710ft]

    We will visit Memorial Chorten early in the morning. This chorten was built to commemorate the deeds of Late third king. Our next stop will be at Changangkha Lhakhang which is the oldest temple in the Valley. Takin, national animals of Bhutan can be seen in this area. We will visit Tashichho Dzong in the evening. Inside Tashichho Dzong lies the throne of Bhutanese king.

  • Day 03 - Day excursion to Punakha [1,310m/4,300ft] and overnight at Thimpu

    We will leave Thimpu early in the morning and head east to cross Dochula Pass (3150m) afterwards which we will reach Punakha- the old winter capital of Bhutan. The top of Dochula Pass allows unobstructed views of Eastern Himalaya including Gangkar Punsum (7550m) which is the highest Mountain of Bhutan. We will lower down through forest to Punakha valley and visit Punakha Dzong which is known for its most detailed temple in Bhutan. Our next stop will be at Khamsum Yuley Lakhang or Chimi Lakhang temple- the fertility temple. We will return to Thimpu for overnight stay.

  • Day 04 - Drive back to Paro [2,250m/7,382ft]

    Early in the morning, we will visit National Library in Thimpu. We will also visit Painting School and Handicraft Emporium where we can buy souvenir items for our near ones. We will return to hotel for lunch and then hike to Tango Monastery. We will conclude our Thimpu sightseeing with visit to Tashichho Dzong and then drive back to Paro where we will stay overnight.

  • Day 05 - Depart Bhutan

    Our representative will arrange for private vehicle to take you to Paro Airport little earlier than your scheduled flight from where you will board a plane for your onward destination. We hope to see you again.
