Trip Itinerary

Day 01-

Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal. Upon completing the visa formalities and collecting your luggages in the airport, kindly proceed to the exit of the arrival hall. Your trip leader will await you just outside the arrival hall and will escort you to your hotel in Kathmandu. Please look out for a placard of Highland Expeditions at the exit of arrival hall. Enjoy the welcome dinner in the evening where you will take the taste of authentic Nepali dishes.

Day 02-

Full day sightseeing of Kathmandu’s highlights

Full Day Kathmandu Tour will be organized on this day during which you will be exploring different UNESCO sites in Kathmandu. There are altogether 10 UNESCO sites in Nepal and you will find it amazing that seven UNESCO sites exist in Kathmandu Valley alone at mere radius of 20km distance. We will begin our tour with visit to Pashupatinath which is the most sacred Hindu temple of Nepal. We will witness Hindu cremation ceremony on the Aryaghat that is located at the edge of Bagmati River. We will visit Nepal’s largest Buddhist stupa of Bouddhanath. We can see rich Tibetan culture in Bouddhanath. Our next stop will be at Kathmandu Durbar square which is the ancient Royal Residence of Nepal. Kumari Ghar- the home of Living Goddess, Kasthamandap Temple, Kal Bhairav Statue and Hanuman Dhoka Museum are places of interest in Kathmandu Durbar Square. We will take leisure walk in the tourist hub and ultimate shopping destination of Thamel via notoriously busiest Ason market before returning back to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 03-

Drive to Pokhara and Explore

Kathmandu is separated from Pokhara by 200km distance. Following Prithvi Highway, we will visit Pokhara. The route is scenic as journey continues through countryside area. Enroute, we can get views of Trishuli River and Cable Car taking pilgrims to the Mankamana Temple- the wish fulfilling goddess. We will reach Pokhara in 5 hrs. Pokhara is the clean and green city. We will visit Phewa Lake in the evening. Boating in Phewa Lake is the pleasant activity. We will row boats to Tal Barahi Temple that exists at the center of Phewa Lake. The reflection of Fishtail Mountain can be seen in this large lake.

Day 04-

Early morning drive to Sarangkot and full day sightseeing of Pokhara’s highlights

After wake up call, we will take 30minutes of ride at dawn to reach the base of Sarangkot hill. After following the moderately steep route uphill, we will reach to the top. Sarangkot hill is popular for its best sunrise view over Annapurna from Pokhara. We can also get panoramic views of Pokhara valley, its lakes and surrounding mountains including Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre and Manaslu from Sarangkot. We will return to hotel for breakfast and then participate in Full Day Sightseeing of Pokhara. We will begin the tour with visit to Davis Fall. Locally called Patale Chhago (meaning waterfall reaching to the abyss), this is the point where water from Pardi River drops down into the tunnel and vanishes underground. Next, we will visit World peace pagoda which is locally known as Shanti Stupa. It is located at elevation of 1100m perched atop the Ananda Hill. Along with being located in serene surrounding, the place is also famous for its views of Annapurna Mountain and Phewa Lake. We will conclude the day tour with visit to International Mountain Museum.

Day 05-

Day 05 - Drive back to Kathmandu

Kathmandu is located 200 km far from Pokhara. It takes 5 hrs in a private vehicle to reach Kathmandu. We can see Cable Car moving to and from Mankamana Temple- the abode of wish fulfilling goddess while on our way. We will return to hotel in Kathmandu for overnight stay.

Day 06-

Fly to Paro and drive to Thimphu

Depending on the flight time, you will be escorted to Airport for your flight to Bhutan. It takes about an hour of pleasant flight to reach Paro of Bhutan from Kathmandu. Once you land at Paro International airport, you will be greeted by our representative. Thimpu is located 50 km far from Paro. Driving through the Paro Valley, you will arrive at the meeting point of Paro and Thimpu Rivers at Chuzom. Passing along scenic chortens, we will follow the tapered section to Simtokha Dzong and reach Thimpu.

Day 07-

Thimpu Sightseeing and drive to Punakha

We will visit National Library in Thimpu. We will also Painting School and Handicraft Emporium where we can buy souvenir items for our near ones. We will hike to Tango Monastery and Tashichho Dzong and head east to cross Dochula Pass (3150m) afterwards which we will reach Punakha- the old winter capital of Bhutan. The top of Dochula Pass allows unobstructed views of Eastern Himalaya including Gangkar Punsum (7550m) which is the highest Mountain of Bhutan. We will lower down through forest to Punakha valley.

Day 08-

Punakha sightseeing and drive back to Wangdue Phodrang

We will start our tour in Punakha by visiting Punakha Dzong. Situated in between two rivers, Punakha fortress is known for its most detailed temple in Bhutan. Our next stop will be at Khamsum Yuley Lakhang or Chimi Lakhang temple- the fertility temple. After the tour, we will return to Wangdue Phodrang.

Day 09-

Wangdue phodrang – Thimphu – Paro

Wangdue Phodrang is located 135km far from Paro. We will leave Wangdeu Phodrang and drive for three hours to reach Paro via Thimpu.

Day 10-

Paro sightseeing and hike up to Taktsang monastery

We will take brief hike to Taktsang which is popular as a Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The site is sacred to Bhutanese. According to the popular belief, Guru Rinpoche flew to Bhutan from Tibet on the back of Tiger in 8th century and chose this spot for meditation. This Monastery exists in the rocky cliffs that towers to 900m above Paro Valley. 2 hrs of moderately challenging hike will take us to the Monastery. We will also visit the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong. This fort celebrates the victory of Bhutanese over raiding Tibetans. The fort offers stunning view of Chomolhari Mountain on a clear day.

Day 11-

Fly back to Kathmandu

Our representative will arrange for private vehicle to take you to Paro Airport little earlier than your scheduled flight from where you will board a plane back to Kathmandu.

Day 12-

Half day sightseeing to Bhaktapur and free evening

After lunch, we will head towards the medieval Newar town of Bhaktapur where we can observe life in its primitive forms. Women can be seen weaving Haku Patasi (a black saree with red border) while a string of onions can be seen hanging from the roof. Chillies are left to be dried up on the road. Bhaktapur Durbar Square has been enlisted as UNESCO Heritage site. We need to pay Heritage site fee to enter the place. We will explore the courtyards of the ancient Royal Residence. The earthquake of 2015 has left its traces in this heritage site as well. Much of the temples have been partially or completely destroyed. We can still visit Golden Gate, Pottery Square and Dattatreya Square. After Half Day Sightseeing, we will return to Kathmandu. There is no fixed itinerary after returning back to Kathmandu on this day. Spend the day as you like.

Day 13-

Final departure

You will be assisted in your last minute preparation. Our representative will take you to Tribhuvan International Airport three hours before your scheduled flight. Safe Journey!! We hope to see you again.
