Trip Overview

Highlights

  • A classic 6000m peak climbing holiday in Annapurna
  • Refined itinerary with proper acclimatization and campsite
  • 22 days of climbing holiday with Thorung La Pass combined
  • Panoramic view of Himalayan vistas from the summit

Chulu Far East Peak Climb is one of our classic climbing holidays in Nepal combined with the famous Annapurna Circuit Trek. Out of the three Chulu peaks, Chulu far east peak climbing is a straightforward yet fun climb and does not require previous technical climbing experience. However, the steep terrain and scree slopes during the approach make it bit challenging. This peak has been often compared to the Island Peak in the Everest region.

Chulu Far East Peak Climb offers climber an opportunity to witness the breathtaking gifts of nature. The panoramic views of the Himalayan vistas from the summit of Chulu far east peak include Annapurna II, III & IV, Gangapurna, Manaslu, Glacier Dome, Pisang Peak, Chulu West Peak, and Dhaulagiri. You get to gaze upon the plains of Tibet to the north over the horizon. The trek passes through tranquil landscapes, lush vegetation, and the traditional villages of the Gurung people in the majestic Annapurna region. We have also added Thorung La Pass in the itinerary making it a perfect climbing holiday in Annapurna region of Nepal.

About the climb:

After your arrival and final preparation in Kathmandu, Chulu Far East Peak Climb journey begins with a long 8 hours of drive to Jagat. From Jagat, the trek starts through the foothills of Marsayangdi valley following the classic Annapurna circuit trail. The trail takes you through a gradual uphill climb for multiple days overpassing scenic villages of Dharapani, Chame, Upper Pisang and Ngawal. The trek then follows the remote trails with narrow ascending uphill climbs to Yak Kharka and then to the Chulu far east base camp.

Base camp will be located at 4,800m and the high camp will be pitched close to the glacial lake at an elevation of 5,400m. We also have a full day allotted for climbing preparation and route assessment before beginning our actual climb. From the base camp, it’s a 1260m of ascent to the summit. Our Chulu far east final summit push will be from the high camp instead of base camp as to break the long climbing journey, maximizing summit chances. From the summit, the view is breathtaking confronting several high Himalayan peaks.

After the summit of Chulu far east, we descent to the base camp and then to Manang to complete rest of the journey. We trek across Thorung La Pass at 5,416m and finally conclude the trek at Jomsom.

We have devised the best Chulu far east peak climb itinerary by making it more refined with proper acclimatization and combing Annapurna circuit.

Important Note: Your safety is of imperative concern while travelling with Highland Expeditions. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails travelling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather and health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The Trek & Climb leader/guide will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.

Essential Information

Difficulty

Grading: 7-8 (Strenuous)

Chulu Far East Peak climbing is considered strenuous due to longer duration trek/climb in a remote and isolated area that goes above 5500m and you need to sleep at an elevation of 5000m+ for multiple days. Climbers are required to have an excellent physical level. On summit days, you will leave camp at around 2 am and will only be back to base camp by late afternoon. This grade trip involves usages of climbing equipment (Harness, Ice Axe, Crampons, Mountaineering Boots, Ascender). Previous experience is essential and we also provide a climbing course at base camp before the actual climb where your guides will teach you the proper way to use the equipment.

Prerequisite

To partake in Chulu far east peak climb, an excellent physical level is required as this trip involves a longer duration of trek/climb. Previous experience of high altitude treks is of great advantage while climbing a 6000m peak. While the previous experience of trek/climb is a requirement, our carefully planned itinerary allows people without previous experience to join as well. Proper rest and acclimatization days with an overnight at high camp have been kept in the itinerary. You should also be both mentally and physically prepared for this trip. A fierce determination, burning desire and teamwork is required. We have allowed ample time for acclimatization and contingency day on our itinerary and there will also be a climbing course at the base camp where your guide will teach you the proper way to use the equipment.

Weather

The best seasons for Chulu Far East Climb are Autumn (from October till the end of November) and Spring (April to May). Temperatures will drop considerably as you ascend higher every day. The nights are cold (between 5C to -5C) and the days are sunny and hot (between 10C to 20C).  Mornings are usually clear, with clouds building up in the afternoon and disappearing at night. Trekking and climbing during the monsoon seasons and winters are not recommended as the visibility is poor and limited whilst upper parts and high passes could be covered with snow.

April, October and November are the favoured months. Please choose the date that is convenient for you.

Meals

All meals are included on the trek and climb from Day 03 to 20. We will provide three meals a day (B, L, D) during the trek. The menus in the teahouses are varied, ranging from traditional Nepalese dhal bhat, Momo (Dumpling) to pizza and apple pie. Despite the fact that meat is available in the teahouses, we prompt against eating it on the trek. The meat has frequently been conveyed in the warmth from lower elevations for a few days before arriving at the teahouses and can cause stomach upsets or disease. During the trek, Breakfast and Dinner will be served at the teahouse/lodge where you stay and Lunch will be along the way. For the climbing period, it will be a fully camping style. Our crew will prepare the food for us. In Kathmandu, only breakfast will be provided to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where what and with whom to eat for lunch and dinner.

If you have any special dietary requirements please let us know in advance and we will be sure to pass your message to your guide. For a gluten-free diet, we highly recommend you to bring extra foods especially for breakfast as your options for the breakfast will be limited. Meals worth USD 1200-1500 are included on this trip.

Insurance

It’s mandatory and highly recommended to get travel insurance before embarking on any adventurous trips in Nepal. We advise all our clients to get travel insurance that covers up emergency helicopter evacuation that may be needed in case of the occurrence of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or any other reasons in high altitudes where there are no other means of transportation available. It is advisable to review carefully the insurance and its coverages before making the final decision. Carry proof of your insurance with you on the holiday and leave a copy next to your kin. You must ensure that your insurance provides an adequate level of protection and covers you for the activities involved.
